Under the blue skies of a West Lancashire autumn morning a Northern train has just passed over a public footpath foot crossing between Crabtree Lane level crossing and New Lane station on the Wigan to Southport line on Tuesday the 17th of September 2024.

The train is running under headcode or train reporting number 2W04 and is the 07.27 hrs service from Manchester Oxford Road to Southport.

In the foreground is the stubble from this year’s barley harvest while in the distance are the cranes and piling rigs of Bachy Soletanche on the Burscough Industrial estate.
