Just into a sunny early autumn afternoon and a field of oats are still ripening watched over by a small stand of trees on the West Lancashire plain.

The West Lancashire plain stretches from Parbold Hill out to the coast at Southport, and so consequently there are some big skies.

As a lot of the soil is peaty the area is renowned as fertile agricultural and horticultural land.

This view is off Drummersdale Lane between New Lane and Bescar.
